DEVICE FACTORY has its roots in Hacker spaces and fundamental Research, with an understanding of how to solve problems and create applied solutions yielding Commercial products. Some of which we make available to you in our on-line store.
DEVICES
HACKER
Community
Hacker spaces are a gathering point for the DIY individuals who share a sense of community and wish to share their knowledge of technology, materials, analysis, and design. Our devices are a combination of hardware, firmware, software, analytics, and product design. These components translate well to the Hacker community. We hope that we can supply devices that will give the hacker a leg up on exploring new ideas and solutions, as well as a learning experience to better understand the world of devices.
Open Source
The members of DEVICE FACTORY have long been part of Open Source. We have have used Open Source platforms in research labs and have contributed code, as well as transforming large commercial enterprises from propriety systems to community based software. We have invested heavily in open source with our careers and with our private funds. To continue our contributions we have made our software and 3D designs available to those that wish to a part of our community.

RESEACH
Industry
Research drives the economy of this country, and it is what drives us at DEVICE FACTORY. From fundamental research taking place at Universities to R&D at many of our Corporations. Every research project has a starting point and builds upon existing knowledge and data. The researcher’s primary tool is their lab equipment and instrumentation which allows them to create and gather fundamental data in pursuit of results. We want to to help this process buy providing high quality remote sensors for specific use cases.
Data Acquisition
Data acquisition is the process of sampling signals that measure real world physical conditions and converting the resulting samples into digital numeric values that can be stored and processed by computer systems. The components of data acquisition systems include:
- Sensors that convert physical parameters to electrical signals.
- Signal conditioning circuitry to refine sensor signals for digital conversion.
- Digital converters which transform conditioned sensor signals to digital values.
Sensor technology is the heart of our physical hardware devices. We use cutting edge components that are targeted at specific use cases and will outperform generic consumer products.
Signal Processing
Signal processing is an area of systems engineering, electrical engineering, and applied mathematics that deals with operations on or analysis of signals as a result of time-varying or spatially varying physical quantities. Signals of interest to us are raw sensor data captured by our custom-built hardware.
We have the ability to take the raw sensor data and apply value added signal processing. This can be either in embedded firmware in real time, or in post processing outside of the device.
Instrumentation
Let us help you instrument your research and experiments so you can focus on your core problems.
We can provide a full line of sensors:
- 3 Axis Accelerometers
- 3 Axis Gyroscopes
- 3 Axis Compasses
- Thermal Infrared
- Light Intensity
COMMERCIAL
Products for the People
Our main focus is in device technologies and the community that likes to use and adapt them. However, our purpose is always to apply devices to problems where we can add value. We have examined common problems and use cases that our technology can solve, and solutions that can be delivered to the people.
Infant
Becoming a new parent is challenging and stressful, filled with anxiety over a wide array of potential health conditions. The first months of life require almost constant attention, and has led to many consumer products that help with the task of monitoring infants.
Parents are looking for concise information on the state of their child. Is their baby resting well, changed position, awake and active, or is there a potential problem that should be attended to more immediately. Having additional data across a larger population can also aid in research and gain a better understanding of the early stages of life.
With our devices we have examined how to achieve more active monitoring of infants and to detect high risk situations such as sleeping on the stomach, or activity levels that should require more attention.
Seniors
Each year, one in every three adults age 65 and older falls. Falls can cause moderate to severe injuries, such as hip fractures and head injuries, and can increase the risk of early death. Fortunately, falls are a public health problem that is largely preventable.
Among older adults, falls are the leading cause of injury. One out of three adults age 65 and older falls each year, but less than half talk to their healthcare providers about it.
Devices that monitor for stability can help even before a fall related injury occurs. Fall detection can be used to report an incident and deliver help to an injured senior that may be incapacitated.
Impact Sports
Impact sports include Football, Hockey, Rugby, etc… anything where a high degree of physical contact is part of the game. As a result, players often suffer concussions which is a type of traumatic brain injury. The immediate effects of a concussion can be loss of consciousness or memory, slurred speech, nausea, fatigue, and a feeling of being in a fog. Second-impact syndrome, in which the brain swells dangerously after a minor blow, may occur in very rare cases.
There can also be a cumulative effect of repeated concussion injuries over time. Recent studies have linked multiple concussion to a risk of developing clinical depression, dementia, and other neurological conditions. These sustained injuries can even be the result of impacts where no immediate symptoms are presented.
We have examined the application of devices to detect impact events that can injure the brain. Even if no symptoms are present, forces applied to brain may justify caution by sitting on the sidelines. Even more so with adolescents, and helping their parents to make this tough call.
Fitness
Health gained though physical activity is the most common form of sport. Its that workout you do multiple times a week. Walking, running, yoga… the sense of well being and achievement is what drives us. These fundamental forms of exercise have been traditionally measured by how far you run or how many repetitions you can do.
Devices have come on to the market that now give you access to quantitative data about your everyday exercise and activity. This can enhance our view on the goals being achieved, and drive us to do more.
Motorsports
Motorsports, whether is it cars or motorcycles, is a favorite American pastime. There is something fundamental about a mans mastery over a machine. As such, there is a constant drive to increase performance and results.
Racing is the height of motorsports ambition and the technology use to gain a spot on the podium rivals that of NASA.
Devices from our Factory can be used to monitor suspension performance and provided data for fine tuning, measure loads and forces, or help to detect unwanted vibrations.
Fun
The is where we are best… it could be a bicycle alarm for your fixie that talks to your iPhone, or a cool LED display that shows messages from your Android.
